About SPHA

The Seattle Pride Hockey Association (SPHA) is a 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization geared towards the growth of the sport of ice hockey through diversity and inclusion. We seek to welcome anyone to the sport who wishes to be a part of it.  You do not need to be a long time hockey player to join the SPHA.  Anyone over age 18 with an open mind and a love for hockey is welcome.  The SPHA currently has players within the Greater Seattle Hockey League (GSHL) and hosts tournaments and events throughout the Greater Seattle area.  We also work with the National Hockey League and the Seattle Kraken to bring awareness and openness to the great sport of hockey.

Hockey is for Everyone™

The National Hockey League’s Hockey is for Everyone™ initiative uses the game of hockey – and the League’s global influence – to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities.

We support any teammate, coach or fan who brings heart, energy and passion to the rink. We believe all hockey programs – from professionals to youth organizations – should provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment for players and families regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.

You Can Play Project

The You Can Play Project works to ensure the safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches and fans. We achieve this by creating a community of allies that is able to foster a true sense of belonging. This becomes possible when sports teams sharpen the focus on the person’s skills, work ethic, and competitive spirit, not their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by developing a culture of respect, in every player, coach and fan.
