STATEMENT ON USA HOCKEY participant ELIGIBILITY POLICY
Seattle Pride Hockey Association unequivocally condemns USA Hockey’s recent policy change that restricts participation based on sex assigned at birth. This policy is harmful, exclusionary, and fundamentally at odds with the values of equity, dignity, and belonging that hockey—and sport more broadly—should represent.
Transgender and nonbinary athletes belong in hockey. Full stop.
We want to be absolutely clear with our community: there is no change to the Seattle Pride Classic, our mission, or who is welcome to play. The Seattle Pride Classic remains fully inclusive of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse players, just as it always has been. Our commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion is unwavering.
Like almost every hockey association across the country, players in the Seattle Pride Classic are required to register with USA Hockey for insurance purposes only. This administrative requirement does not reflect our values, nor does it change how we define eligibility, inclusion, or belonging within our tournament. We recognize that this requirement may feel painful, frustrating, or contradictory in light of USA Hockey’s stance—and those feelings are valid.
Let us be clear: we do not agree with this policy, we do not support it, and we are actively opposed to it. We are exploring every possible alternative to reduce reliance on systems that exclude members of our community, while ensuring player safety and event viability.
Seattle Pride Classic exists because LGBTQIA+ players—especially trans and nonbinary players—have been pushed out of traditional hockey spaces for far too long. Our tournament is, and will remain, a place where you do not have to justify your identity to participate, where your gender is respected, and where hockey is played in the spirit of joy, safety, and chosen family.
To our trans community members: you are wanted here, you are protected here, and you are essential to this tournament. We stand with you, we believe you, and we will continue fighting for a hockey world that does better than this.

Conferences
CONFERENCES
You’re in control! During registration, you’ll choose the conference that fits your vibe: Within each conference, we’ll create two divisions. For Social Conference, the divisions will be based on the range of skill levels that sign up—ensuring fair, fun, and fierce matchups for everyone! For Competitive Conference, the skill level will be amortized equally across both divisions. No matter where you play, you’re part of something legendary.
COMPETITIVE
In this conference, the objective is to continue the competitive nature of prior Seattle Pride Classics. Players choosing this format will enjoy the same exciting features as in previous years, including structured gameplay and a focus on standings. The final divisional game on Sunday will be determined by standings, with trophies and first and second-place medals awarded to recognize top performers. In addition, the two first place teams in their division will advance to a Conference Final.
SOCIAL
For players seeking a more level playing field without the pressure of competition, this conference offers a more social and inclusive hockey experience. Emphasizing camaraderie and enjoyment, it moves away from standings, trophies, and medals to foster a friendly atmosphere. Players will engage in a round-robin format (you won’t play the same team twice!), with teams balanced by skill level to ensure fun and engaging games. All matchups will be shared in full, so there’s no guessing your final game time. The best part: your games will end by Saturday night.

JOIN TEAM TRANS OR TRANS WAVE
As we make progress in our sport and community, there comes a point when actions mean more than words. You may be surprised to know that this tournament isn’t about playing hockey.
In fact, it’s also not about scoring the most goals, or making the most saves, or even winning for that matter. It’s much, much more.
We’re building a community.
And we’re accomplishing that by way of hosting the most inclusive hockey tournament in the country.
Both Team Trans AND Trans Wave will host one team each at Seattle Pride Classic 2026.
These teams are not available for open registration. You must work directly with their respective organizers to receive a password to join the teams. In addition, a $100 deposit is required to finalize your registration, with final payment due no later than end of day, April 15.

TRAVEL FROM OUTSIDE SEATTLE
If you are traveling from out of state by air, you will want to fly to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
Our partners at Alaska Airlines serve most cities within the U.S., and many airports around Canada.
TRAVEL FROM SEATAC AIRPORT
The best option is to travel on Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail 1-Line from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Station to Northgate Station.
Upon arrival at Northgate Station, the walk is 1/3 of a mile (approximately 6-7 minutes by foot) to the host hotel and Kraken Community Iceplex.

Insurance
USA HOCKEY MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
All players in the Seattle Pride Classic 2026 are required to have an active USA Hockey membership for the 2025-26 season (or register on 4/1 – but not beforehand – for the 2026-27 season – no later than 5/31). This membership provides essential insurance coverage for players, including liability and secondary medical coverage in case of injury during tournament play. If you are not already a USA Hockey member, you can register at usahockey.com on/after 4/1. We do not recommend enrolling prior to that – otherwise your coverage will terminate on 8/31/26 as opposed to 8/31/27. Your membership number will be required no later than 4/30.
OPTIONAL REGISTRATION INSURANCE – REGISTER WITH PEACE OF MIND
We understand that life happens, and unexpected events like injury, illness, or family emergencies can disrupt your plans. That’s why we offer optional registration insurance, allowing you to protect your registration fees under qualifying circumstances. If an unforeseen event prevents you from playing and you’re within our nonrefundable timeframe, this insurance helps safeguard and prevents forfeiture of your dues. FRIDAY: ICEBREAKER SOCIAL @ STOUP BREWING
On Friday from 7 PM – 11 PM, join us at Stoup Brewing on Capitol Hill for a fun invitational and opportunity to mix & mingle with all your tournament peers. All ages welcome, non-alcoholic options available.
SATURDAY: ALASKA AIRLINES: ALL STARS OF PRIDE
Your tournament peers will be hand-selected by the referee crew to represent the tournament in our marquee Alaska Airlines: All Stars of Pride game on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
Sunday: Competitive Conference Final
On Sunday, 6/14 from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM, cheer on your friends in the Competitive Conference as they final battle to glory in the Conference Finals takes it all!
Sunday: Pride Skate
On Sunday, 6/14 from 2:45 PM – 4:30 PM, bring the weekend to a close with a friendly Pride Skate around the rink.
