MATTHEW CAMPBELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Seattle Pride Hockey Association understands and recognizes how cost prohibitive our sport is, and more so, how expensive it can be to attend a hockey tournament. To make the Seattle Pride Classic as inclusive as possible – SPHA is introducing the Matthew Campbell Memorial Scholarship to decrease economic barriers to participating and increase the opportunity to play in the Seattle Pride Classic 2023.

PRIDE TAPE WITH A PRO

Pride Tape with a Pro is back for a second year! This experience is great for participants, guests, and kids of all ages. Get one-on-one time with a hockey pro of your choice – including transgender rights advocate, Jessica Platt, Stanley Cup Champion Andrew Ference, and 2x Ed Chynoweth Cup Champion, Luke Prokop

They will wrap your hockey stick (or anything of your choosing, really) in Pride Tape, Trans Tape or a color that you bring.

All proceeds benefit the Seattle Pride Hockey Association and our development of events & programs.

SPECIAL GUESTS

PROS

Please welcome Andrew Ference, Luke Prokop, Jessica Platt & J.T. Brown. Andrew has long been a supporter of promoting equality and inclusion in the sports. In 2021, Luke came out as gay, becoming the first player under contract with an NHL team to do so.  Jessica was the first transgender woman to play in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League and is an advocate for transgender rights. Andrew, Luke, Jessica & J.T. will all participate in a variety of ways, including playing on teams and our Pride Tape with a Pro fundraiser.

TEAM TRANS

Team Trans Logo

As we make progress in our sport and community, there comes a point when actions mean more than words. You may be surprised to know that this tournament isn’t about playing hockey. In fact, it’s also not about scoring the most goals, or making the most saves, or even winning for that matter. It’s much much more.

We’re building a community.

OH, BUOY!

Buoy is a great admirer of the Kraken and pays tribute to the deep sea creature with unique touch of magic in his hockey hair flow.

Buoy is a Seattle sea-troll who lives in the caverns of Climate Pledge Arena.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes, absolutely! We welcome all skill levels. Even if you just started playing hockey, don’t fret! We have a non-competitive division for you.

That’s great! If you are interested in joining Team Trans, please contact Avery and Mason who will be managing the teams formation. Visit https://www.seattlepridehockey.org/seaprideclassic23/team-trans/.

We are so thankful for our Team Captains! It is truly a thankless job and without them, we couldn’t cultivate the experience we are aiming for.

In 2023, the Team Captain role will be different. It is our intent for Team Captains to take on a more involved leadership role, and we are compensating for it.

Check out the newly-formed Team Captain site for all the details.

For now, simply put: register as a Skater and indicate your interest in being a Team Captain during registration. As participants express interest in being Team Captain’s, we will email them all the details, and ultimately, select individuals best-suited to fulfill the role.

The times listed below are game start through game end times. (For example, the final game on Friday will begin at around 9:45 PM and conclude by 11:00 PM. On Saturday, start around 8:30 PM and end by 11:00 PM).

Friday: 3:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Saturday: 8:30 AM – 11:00 PM

Sunday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

On Sunday, following the 2:30 PM start of Alaska Airlines: All Stars of Pride, we are hosting a Pride | Hockey | Celly Party complete with a catered appetizers, dinner, plus a Pride Skate. Participants + volunteers are included and guests/spectators are welcome to join for a small admission cost (of course, spectatorship is always free!)

We’re glad you asked! Producing the Seattle Pride Classic is massively expensive. Each individuals registration dues account for approximately 55% of the actual costs to produce the tournament. To ensure the tournament is affordable and accessible to everyone, the remaining 45% is subsidized by our sponsors & supporters through the sale of advertising options.

While you may request to register with family or a friend, we strongly encourage participants utilize this tournament as a means to meet new people. After all, this tournament is for the community. Generally speaking, you likely get to play with your friend/family member each week — try and branch out if you’re comfortable with it. All that said, we are restricting “pairing” requests to one per participant. Large groups of pairing requests is basically forming a team and multiple pairings make it incredibly difficult to balance teams and skill. We appreciate your understanding in keeping this tournament competitive but fun.

Seattle Pride Hockey Association has tried to blend all skill levels across our teams. However, it is apparent that we need to host Competitive and Non-Competitive Divisions to further create the space needed to welcome our beginner/novice players. One Conference will be the Trailblazers Conference, containing the Competitive Division. The other is the Queer Icons Conference, containing two Non-Competitive Divisions. The tournament producers will hand select each participants placement in the appropriate conference while trying to balance pairing requests.
